Quality of Life

The flavor and fabric of a vibrant city life.

What’s better on a summer’s day than a ripe, juicy strawberry? Try two perfect summer days celebrating all things strawberry. The two-day Troy Strawberry Festival draws over 200,000 residents and visitors every year to sample everything from  a pageant, and a pie-eating contest to a 10K run, arts and crafts vendors, and delectable strawberry dishes of all kinds.

With 16 international companies thriving in Troy, our outlook is broad and inclusive. We offer the small-town friendly flavor of all-American sports traditions like hockey and football, but we’re also a place where a traditional Japanese language school is open every Saturday. In our historic downtown you can grab a chocolate malt at K’s Hamburgers, a local institution since 1935, or soak up the atmosphere and delicious ales of an on-trend brew pub before you browse the hand-made arts and crafts (eco-friendly and fair-trade) at a global market. Great taste? You’ll believe it when you encounter the beauty of the sculptures gracing the cityscape every summer, or take in a performance at Barn in the Park, home of the Troy Little Theater, or revel in the great concerts and other events on the levee and in historic downtown Prouty Plaza.

And what about Troy’s Tour de Donut, the annual mass-start timed bike ride where eating donuts is part of the cycling challenge? The Tour de Donut is far from the only “sweet ride” in Troy, with more than 30 miles of biking and walking/hiking trails across the city. Together, the city of Troy and Miami County roll out more than 1,350 acres of parkland, including the Great Miami River Recreational Trail that runs through the heart of the city, where canoeing and kayaking are also popular.

In a city where nature’s wonders are seamlessly integrated into the fabric of life, you’ll breathe easier in every way, enjoying a higher quality of life thanks to more and better ways to relax and recharge—with many that don’t cost a penny. And with a cost of living just 84% of the national average, and home prices just 65.2% of the average, you’ll have plenty of breathing room in your budget—and plenty of styles, settings, and price points to choose from.

It’s easy to savor life in a city with a vibrant downtown, great recreation, and the kind of home you’ve always wanted. And all in a place where a powerhouse economy promises more opportunities, with educational assets that assure the ability to capitalize on those opportunities. Excellent K-12 learning, along with technical and academic education options right here in the area, mean that students and families stay on the rise, with 25 institutions of higher learning within a one-hour drive so that lifelong learning is always within reach.

In Troy good jobs come with the good life included. Here you’ll enjoy all the fruits of your labor—strawberries are just the beginning.
